FOREWORD
by Franklin Graham
He stilled the storm to a whisper.
-Psalm 107:29
God’s Word tells us that “it is the Lord who makes the storm clouds” (Zechariah 10:1). It tells us that Jesus predicted the storms when He walked earth’s dusty roads (Matthew 16:3). And Scripture pulls back the curtains of the sky, proclaiming, “His way is in the whirlwind and the storm” (Nahum 1:3).
These well-preserved verses are given to us for multiple reasons, but the two most important are that God will bring storms into our lives to warn us of the impending doom for disobedience to His Holy commands; and that God will be our shelter in the time of storm, just as the prophet Isaiah said, “Lord you are a shelter from the storm” (25:1-4).
This is precisely the theme of my father’s book that you hold in your hands. Originally written in 1992, we felt that in light of recent developments since 9/11, it might be helpful to reprint the book, bringing it up to date since the turn of the century.
My father has added nearly two decades to his life since then and has lived through a few more storms. At ninety-one years of age and after sixty-four years of marriage to my mother, who died in 2007, he lives alone in the home my mother created for him and our family at Little Piney Cove. As he looks back over his life and contemplates what lies ahead, he senses the uneasiness around the world, he feels the foundation of America crumbling, and he hears the sound of hoof beats - perhaps on the fringe of heaven itself.
For the same reason God created the storms - whether to quench our thirst with His spiritual water or to drench our wayward eyes with tears because of our disobedience - my father wants to take you through just one small but very significant part of the Revelation of Jesus Christ in hopes that it will drive you to the foot of the cross for salvation or perhaps send you to the ends of the earth, where millions of souls are thrashing about in the stormy commotion of uncertainty, disappointment, and sin, warning all to prepare for eternity before the four horsemen thunder to earth to bring about the end of this age. These events will usher in the glorious presence of the great white stallion carrying the King of kings to reign forevermore.
We trust you will open your heart as the Revelator - the apostle John - shares the intensity of events revealed when Jesus breaks the seven seals of the heavenly scroll. The storms that will batter life on earth will yet give opportunity for mankind to consider where they stand before the One who holds the book of life. He, the Author of life itself, one glorious day will open it in the presence of every soul that belongs to Him. I pray that your name will be found written there.
