Our members loved Rachel’s Secret, the first book in B.J. Hoff’s popular new series, The Riverhaven Years. The story of young Amish widow Rachel Brenneman and Irish-American riverboat captain Jeremiah Gant now continues in Where Grace Abides.
This compelling second novel offers readers an even closer look at the Amish community of Riverhaven and the people who live, love and work there. Secrets, treachery and persecution are only a few of the challenges that test Rachel’s faith and her love for the forbidden “outsider,” while Jeremiah’s own hopes are dealt a life-changing blow, rendering the vow he made to Rachel seemingly impossible to honor.
Many of the other characters first introduced in Rachel’s Secret now find their own gentle, unassuming lives of faith jeopardized by a malicious outside influence. At the same time, those striving to help runaway slaves escape to freedom through the Underground Railroad face deception and the danger of discovery.
All the elements we have come to expect from this beloved author—romance, drama and true-to-life characters—join together in Where Grace Abides to fill its pages with a tender love story and an inspiring journey of faith.

In this book, the story of love between Rachel and Jeremiah and the Amish ways standing between them was so wrenching. It was difficult to put the book. I could not wait to see what would happen next. I read it in one sitting. It was delightful.

In studing American history I knew the Quakers were members of the underground railroad. This series led me to believe the Amish could also be members. This is a great book and keeps you in suspense throughout. I am looking forward to the next book in the series? Hopefully we are not left hanging here without our captain and lady getting married and having children and our brother becoming more involved. Our helper getting back home safely? Too many open ends to not have another book.

Loved the book, showed deep emotions not shown outwardly normally by these people. New Author to me, but a good one.
