You needed a shop full of tools--just to get started!
January 28, 2010

The book was full of projects, but if you did not have a wookworking shop already full of tools, you could not use it. I was hoping for items using a hammer, nail, glue, screwdriver, etc. to make simple tables and shelves.

Not for Beginners
July 15, 2009

This book is in no way for a beginner. I believe that one must have alot of knowledge behind her to use this book effectively. All the projects are advanced and I really didn't like the styles portrayed in the book.

Woodworking 101 for Women

This book appears to be a good book, but it is definitely one for someone that is advanced in the craft. Sure, you are shown what you need to do the projects included in the book, but none of them are really beginner style. Personally, I would have thought that there would have been projects to give a person a taste of woodworking, instead of projects that cause some serious outlay of cash in order to even begin (by this I mean the tools). I already have a combination miter saw, tablesaw, jigsaw, drills, and many of the other mentioned electric and hand tools, and I wouldn't even begin to start in on some of the stuff in this book. Don't get me wrong. There is some very valuable info included in this book. Just not what I was looking for I guess. I guess that I'll head to Borders or Barnes and Noble so that I can physically look at a book before I buy.

Finally what women can understand.
March 23, 2008

Ithought this book was very well writen in terms that a woman can understand. I am not one that reads directions easily, but found that this book was detailed enough that I could find my way through any project. I am planning on doing the headboard, and am in the process of getting all my materials needed for this project.

Disappointed
January 25, 2008

While the book explains how to mortise and use bisquits, I feel that more simple projects would be a better book. How to make a bench with glue and nails, cornice the easy way, ottoman, bookcases, etc. Most of americas women that would use this kind of information are not financialy able to buy the the tools necessary to make things (her way)Most single mothers, widows, etc would appreciate an easy way to make inexpensive projects. When I was younger, I made a lot of things for my home, just using glue and nails. I was a single mother of 2 and money was really tight. I think this approach would help a great many women. There are a lot of shows on HGTV that use these methods, but not everyone has cable, etc. A simple book would be wonderful. Include how to measure for what you want.
