If you haven’t already fallen in love with Spencer, Iowa’s, beloved library cat, Dewey, now is your chance! Vicki Myron, his self-proclaimed “mother”, regales us with new, never-before-told adventures in which her adorable feline demonstrates more of his proclaimed generosity of spirit. But this time the librarian in her couldn’t resist sharing tales from other devoted cat owners. You’ll read about a divorced mother in Alaska who saved a drowning kitten on Christmas Eve and a war veteran suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; he poignantly tells of how a rescued cat rescued his heart. Dewey’s Nine Lives will make you laugh, cry and most of all, come to understand why animals have the power to transform a life.

I've only read a few pages, but it made me think of the many cats that have graced this house ever since I could remember. I can't help but think about my beloved "Miss Colina" that my Mom got for me, as a kitten, in July of 1984. She was part Persian and part Siamese, but I fell in love with that sweet face when I heard her meow. She lived 14 years before passing away from old age. I also think about Brandy, a short-haired white male with a little bit of gray smudge on his face and some gray and black on his tail. When one raises a cat from kittenhood, it seems like the connection is so strong and immediate. It's great to hear more stories about how cats can come into our lives and leave those precious paw prints to remember, and to know that God knew where and when to place them into our lives.
