I haven't written an online product recommendation or review in a few years so when I bother to come back and leave one, it's exceptional and this book deserves the comments.
It's technical. It's science. It's AWESOME.
Get this book, change your life and get on the right path to healthy! This is a fantastic, phenomenal book on the science of what happens inside your body. Definitely woke me up!

This is probably the best mass market book on achieving good health available. There are a few inconsistencies and some oversights but generally on the mark for a book targeted at the mass market.
Some will complain about "going organic" for sure. If you want to be healthy, there is no other way. Our bodies are not designed to process chemicals and processed foods; they are designed to metabolize whole foods. Call this organic if you like. I call it the only way to get healthy.
Jillian states that one should eat foods in their natural state then continually stresses low fat milk. I've never seen a low fat cow so this contradicts her stated goal of eating things in their natural state. To follow her rules one should consume whole, raw milk not the pasteurized, homogenized, low fat junk sold in most stores. Skim and low fat milk is fed to pigs to fatten them up. Stick to whole, raw milk to lose weight.
There is virtually no mention of fermented foods which have been shown in study after study to be a key to health and longevity. Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of fermented foods. This is an oversight that I hope will be corrected in the next edition.
Another oversight is the fact that Jillian glosses over whole grains. Studies have shown that whole grains (especially wheat) eaten in the morning increase one's metabolism over eating other types of foods. Wheat has gotten a bad rap for allergies primarily because few people and no manufacturers process it properly. All grains should be soaked overnight before being consumed to reduce phytates and increase digestability.
Jillian goes into great detail about some subjects and glosses over others. I understand that to provide a consistent level of detail the book would be twice as long and many would put the book down before finishing it.
If you want to lose weight & get healthy, this is one of the 5 books you should own along with Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon.

If you crave info beyond basic diet plans and gimmicks Jillian will help you figure out how to approach food for a life time of healthy eating. I found the section on percentages of carbs. vs. fat vs.protein very helpful. Basic ideas about approaching food day to day rather than a list of what not to eat in order to lose a few pounds. As always Jillian is very informative when it comes to fitness, she is always a great motivator.

Jillian reminds us of the importance to eat natural foods. I've been working on going organic for over a year now. It's getting easier, the products are getting easier to find and the price are getting better. My families health is worth it. The food companies in this country don't care about our health only their profits. I like the section in her book that covers everyday household products, that's my next step. Thanks Jillian
