Prayer has long been an integral part of America’s character. In good times and in bad, we have turned to prayer. Not only are we able to reach out to God and share our most private thoughts and aspirations, but we are able to find comfort and put our lives in perspective.
Both humbling and empowering, prayer becomes a critical catalyst in allowing us to endure. It becomes our confessional, our source of inspiration, and our calming friend in connecting with the Almighty. As Abraham Lincoln quietly voiced during the most difficult days of the Civil War “ I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go. My own wisdom, and that of all about me, seemed insufficient for the day.”
Clearly, America is at a critical crossroads. Our future at times seems so uncertain, fragile and overwhelming. Both individually and as a people, we are trying to grapple with events that too often are beyond our control. What we forget, of course, is that past generations of Americans also faced unique challenges that brought into question human imperfections, crushing failures and serious doubts.

It is very enjoyable and recognize some,as the hymns we've known forever. I really enjoy the facts after each prayer and seeing the early leaders of this country asking God for guidance,makes me proud to be an american and Christ follower

I am really enjoying this book, even more than I though I would. I have liked the prayers that I have read, and though I have not read all of them, I find them inspirational, and a great help in prayer. There is even a section that has a prayer for every state. There are several prayers I will put in my notebook and pray often. This is a book that I will be using often.
