Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins’ Matthew’s Story is the fourth novel based on the Gospels in their bestselling The Jesus Chronicles series. Matthew’s Story brings to life the most unlikely of apostles—a sinner-turned-saint—and the time he spent following our Lord.
Levi is studying to be a priest, but when an unspeakable tragedy befalls his family, in anger and despair he turns his back on his faith and decides to pursue riches and luxury instead. He becomes a tax collector, disappointing his family and reviled by Jews and Romans alike. Although Levi is a success on his worldly path, his chosen trade doesn’t bring him fulfillment and peace of mind. When he hears about Jesus, the man who some are saying is the prophesied Messiah, he begins a quest that leads him to question his very existence. As he follows Jesus and records His words and deeds, Levi is shaken to the core and transformed. Renamed “Matthew” (“gift from God”) by Jesus, he gives up his work and his worldly possessions and claims Jesus as his Lord.
Compelling and uplifting, Matthew’s Story shows how the true Messiah not only changed the life of one man, but also forever altered the course of history.

I've read all of the prior Jesus Chronicles, Left Behind, and other works by Jerry Jenkins. This book was a disappointment. It seemed like a token effort. Lacked the excitement of the others in the series.
