CHARLES COLSON

 October 16, 1931 – April 21, 2012

In 1974, former special counsel to President Nixon, pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in the Watergate scandal and served seven months in federal prison.

He became a Christian just prior to entering prison and later wrote about it in his book Born Again. Following his incarceration he went on to found Prison Fellowship in 1976 and to become a highly regarded author, speaker, and columnist. His ceaseless work for His Savior produced a number of bestsellers including Loving God, How Now Shall We Live?, Being the Body, and most recently The Sky is Not Falling.

Prison Fellowship became the world’s largest Christian prison ministry serving prisoners in more than 100 countries. He launched a number of other ministries to help prisoners and their families including Angel Tree and Prisoner Pen Pals.

He also founded The Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, a conservative Christian think tank.

Colson is considered by many to be the leading spokesperson only next to Billy Graham of American Evangelical Christianity. And like Billy Graham lived since his conversion without scandal.
